As Texas rebuilds from Hurricane Harvey we are acutely aware of the shortage of licensed trades, particularly HVAC, electrical, and plumbing professionals relative to the scale of the disaster.
There are just not enough licensed professionals to deal with the amount of work needing to be done. Where we can, we are hiring or assisting homeowners in hiring local licensed trades personnel but not all our programs or homeowners have the resources for this process.
Where it is possible, we are trying to attract out-of-state volunteers who would be willing to seek and secure a temporary authorization to use their professional license to assist in rebuild projects.
If volunteers are willing to do this and donate a few hours of work, it could go a long way towards helping families recover from this disaster.
HVAC Professionals – Reciprocity
According to the TDLR, Texas has HVAC license reciprocity with 2 states, South Carolina and Georgia. Licensees from other states can register with TDLR online and then coordinate their work with a licensed HVAC contractor.
Electricians – Reciprocity
Texas has reciprocity with Arkansas, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Wyoming. As with HVAC, an electrical journeyman can coordinate with a licensed master electrician here in TX.
Plumbers – Reciprocity
The Texas Plumbing Board will issue provisional licenses to out of state plumbers.
